Beginner I (Absolute Beginner)
Never played a Ukulele before? This level is perfect for the complete novice, and someone just starting to play who knows 1 or 2 chords.
You will learn: to play chords, strum and sing simple songs on the Ukulele. Read simple melodies (trust me 100s of students have!) and learn the basic chords associated with the C Scale. This is a fun class where you will learn the solid basics of playing this fun little Instrument. Plus 2-part ensemble playing, and a variety of tunes genres from a repertoire of Jazz, Blues, Country, Classical, folk & contemporary tunes! It is easy, you’ll love it!
This course gives the basics in playing the Ukulele, in a fun, supportive environment.
Beginner II (and Beyond)
This level is perfect for you, if you have completed the Beginner I course, or been playing for a little while on your own, and can strum a simple tune fluidly with basic chords (C,F,G7,Am,E7, haven’t done Bb well yet). You can move from one chord to another with ease, and play a melody reading simple tablature (the easy number system to read a melody line).
You will learn: to play more chords associated with the C Major Scale,(and maybe G or F), simple picking patterns, and variety of strum feels. As well as, how to build a major scale, fret board recognition, simple chord progressions, simple chord melody, 2 or 3 part ensemble playing, and a variety of tunes from a repertoire of Jazz, Blues, Country, Classical, Folk & contemporary tunes! There is something for everyone.
This course consolidates the basics of Ukulele playing, and enhances fluidity of playing. And is designed to be continued in a few times, each term has new songs and emphasis on the Ukulele specials board! Play with other people and learn!
This level is perfect for you, if you know a variety of basic chords (for example: A, Am, A7, C, C7, Em, B7, D7, E7, Gm, Dm, G7, Am7), and can make a Bb shape, can read tablature and play melodies, can understand chord progressions (such as I , IV, V), you can learn chords and tunes fairly quickly, and your playing has a steady rhythm and fluidity.
You will learn: Some Moveable chords shapes based on Bb, F7, Dm7, D7shapes and barre chords that can be moved around the fret board. As well as Major & Minor scales of C, D, G & F and a Blues Scale. Right hand technique will include finger style picking patterns, melody playing, riffs and licks, and a variety of strum feels including Reggae, Swing, and Blues Shuffle. You will play tunes from a repertoire of Jazz, Blues, Country, Classical, Folk & contemporary tunes! There is something for everyone!
This course deepens your theoretical understanding, adds variety to your chords, picking and strumming, taking your Ukulele playing to the next level. Plus it is great fun!!
Intermediate 2 (and Beyond)
This level is perfect for you, if you have completed Intermediate I, or are ready for playing ‘beyond’ Intermediate 1. This class will evolve, and consolidate, your playing!
You will learn: to play all moveable chord shapes, more scales, advanced chord melodies, 3-part ensemble playing, more complex melodies, solo-ing techniques and theory, fingerstyle patterns, and strum feels. Each term there will be an emphasis on a theme, that changes three times a year. We have consolidated the ukulele module idea within this class. So you can continue in this class as long as you like!! Be prepared to practice at home and have a fun in class! You will play tunes from a repertoire of Jazz, Blues, Country, Classical, Folk & contemporary tunes! There is something for everyone!
This course will challenge you, so be prepared to practice a lot, learn a lot, and enjoy your Ukulele in a whole new way! It is fun, the pace is faster AND it will definitely push you!
